THE FIRST PORTAL

At night I dream the labyrinth has permeable walls, membranous & blue. Like gelatin they dissolve, giving way to mirrors. I come to understand that I am not alone, though I am utterly alone. In the alcoves, animals with onyx eyes, glass spiders on crystal threads, a discarded, broken Furby whispers “Don’t

go further. It’s beautiful,
but violent.”

You can only reach this place in certain weather. You must wait til’ the conditions are right. You must pay the fee. I split open strawberries & fill the gash with honey. Bury my secrets like teeth in the pillow of the earth. All the roads inside converge eventually. We are drawn inevitably to a central point.

You’ll see.
